With O.Translator, you can download translated files to your device for easy further editing and sharing. The desktop process is intuitive and user-friendly. On iPhone, however, due to iOS’s download mechanism—especially in Safari—files are often opened in preview mode by default. This article will guide you step by step on how to correctly save files to your phone.
Scenario 1: Download Prompt
Sometimes, when you tap a link to a non-PDF file (such as a .pptx, .docx, or .zip archive), you might be fortunate enough to see this:
- A small window will pop up and ask:
'Do you want to download “filename.xxx”?'
- Simply tap the blue “Download” button.
- The file will be automatically saved to your phone.
If you’re downloading with Safari: The default location is usually the “Files” app -> “Downloads” folder.
If you’re downloading with Chrome: The default location is usually the “Files” app -> “On My iPhone” -> “Chrome” folder.
Scenario Two: Direct Preview
When you see the file being previewed in Safari or Chrome (whether it’s a PDF or PPTX), please follow these steps:
-
Find the 'Share' button: This is the key step in the process. It looks like an icon with a [square and an upward arrow].
- In Safari: This button is usually at the center of the toolbar at the bottom of the screen.
- In Chrome: This button is usually located at the top of the screen, on the right side of the address bar.
(If the toolbar is hidden, gently swipe on the page to make it reappear.)
-
Tap the 'Share' button: A share menu with many options will appear.
-
Select 'Save to Files': Scroll down in the menu to find and tap the 'Save to Files' option.
-
Choose where to save the file:
- The system will open your 'Files' app.
- You can choose a specific location to save, such as 'iCloud Drive,' 'On My iPhone,' or the 'Downloads' folder.
- Once you've chosen, tap 'Save' in the top right corner of the screen.
Congratulations! Your file has now been successfully downloaded and saved to your iPhone.
Where can I find my downloaded files?
This is an important point: On iPhone, files are not saved to the Photos app.
All files downloaded using the above method are stored in an app with a blue folder icon called “Files”.
- If you downloaded using Safari:
- The default location is usually: Files app → Downloads folder.
- If you downloaded using Chrome:
- The default location is usually: Files app → On My iPhone → Chrome folder.
- If you chose a location manually:
- The file will be in the folder you selected in step 4.
